Here's the deal. I think it would be prudent for me to have a cellular phone. However, I don't make a lot of calls, nor do I really intend to make a whole lot of calls. This is why I like the idea of pre-paid/pay-as-you go type deals. Can anyone point me in a good direction? Cause I don't want to be paying $50 a month for 200 billion minutes that I'll never use.

I'm off to keep poking at the internet to help me.

I think you can get a pretty good deal with T-Mobile without even going the prepaid route--if they have service where you're going, it could be worth it. They don't serve Madison, unfortunately.

My two years at Verizon will now finally serve a purpose...

Things to keep in mind when picking a provider:

If you enter into a contract, and get a local plan or nationwide plan. In order to switch to one or the other you will have to keep signing contracts... doesn't apply to pre-pay.

The lowest price for pre-pay service is probably going to be either T-mobile, but I wouldn't suggest going through them. If you have anytype of problem with their service the customer service department that they run is extremely bad at getting anything fixed in a timely manner.

With almost any plan, pre-paid or otherwise you should be able to get a free phone... in fact I wouldn't agree to pay anything without getting one for free. In-line stores at good at trying to sucker you into stuff, just know what you want and make sure you keep saying it and check all fine print.

A site to check out: letstalk.com (http://www.letstalk.com/) for contract plans anyway. The providers carry details on their site about pre-paid accounts.

Verizon though has the best coverage in your area, they also have quite a bit of coverage in the Seattle area as well.

Have they kept you on some sort of comission...?

Thanks for the info. :)

I've always had contract plans... the two most recent with Sprint and now with Verizon. I hated Sprint. Verizon is excellent.

I believe Verizon now has a month-to-month prepaid dealy... but I could be wrong. Don't know anything about it.

I just know that their coverage is awesome... it's great to be able to talk for free to my other friends on Verizon... their customer service has been pretty good... and I get my wireless, my regular phone, and my DSL all on one bill (which is very nice).

cingular sucks. they drop my calls, reception is crappy, it takes me 4 or 5 tries, sometimes, to make a call, etc.

I have what used to be a "go phone" with att wireless, and is now something similiar with cingular. basically i pay once a month unless i go online or call and cancel it. it gets me enough minutes to call for just silly stuff.

Something to think about, is that if you have a land line (do you even have one?), you're spending almost $40 a month. A cell phone, with all the bells and whistles, would be $50 a month. So really, the difference in the two by cancelling a land line is dinner for two at Yummy Buffet.
