Aug. 18th, 2008 08:19 pmAlas, no audio updates today.
OMG so tired. This morning we got up and went to the Corn Palace. This year's theme is everyday heroes, and it's being changed this next weekend to American Destinations. Then we drove and drove. Ate lunch at Casey's Cafe in Chamberlain, SD which has a "perfect cheeseburger." Daniel had that (and it was pretty good). I had the chicken salad croissant which was... meh.
We drove and drove some more and headed to the Badlands. A couple attractions before the park entrance is the "Ranch store" which has prairie dogs you can feed (or just toss unsalted peanuts near them). It also has a giant statue of a prairie dog. Wheee! It was here also that we realized it was 90, sunny, and we had no sunscreen. But it wasn't until we got to the lodge in the Badlands that we could buy 2 oz of 50 spf for $4.25. It was worth it. We were already red enough from the driving and prairie dog ranch.
Ran around on the badlands a little. Not so much since it was hot and we were low on water. Then, not having had enough kitch, we went to Wall Drug. I bought... Band-Aids. That's right. I bought a drugstore product from Wall Drug.
Between Wall Drug and Rapid City, I asked Daniel if he had packed my swimsuit this morning. He had not. It is abandoned in Mitchell. So sad. It was a good suit. So we went to K-Mart to check their sales racks and I found a replacement which is OK, but a little low cut. But clearance, so I won't complain.
I also bought tennis shoes. Because the only closed toe shoes I have right now make the back of my ankles bleed. And because we want to go to Jewel Cave National Monument tomorrow and take the Lantern Tour. I need to call in the morning to see if we can reserve a couple of slots. I almost did this afternoon, but wimped out and didn't give my cc number out over the cell phone. Maybe the room phone will feel safer?
In the meantime, I am tired and looking forward to my bed.

I do not OWN a bathing suit. I realize this makes me a humbug.
