Mar. 24th, 2008 09:14 pmGot my eyes checked today. I told you yesterday I was excited and the extent of my excitement will become evident over the course of the next few paragraphs. The place I went to doesn't do the airpuff! I rejoiced. If you haven't had an eye exam and don't know what I'm talking about, there's this thing where you put your eye up to a hole and have to be still and keep your eye open when, at any second, they might blow a puff of air into it. I hate it. I always flinch and have to do it a half dozen times. But I didn't today!
They did do this thing where they put drops in my eyes to, apparently, numb my eyeballs. It only lasts about 10 minutes, but it is a strange sensation. I felt like maybe my eyes were watering, but they were only numb. Like Novocaine for the eye, I guess.
I did get digital images of my retina taken, which was super cool and meant I didn't have to get my eyes dilated (but cost an extra $29. Whatever, I didn't want my eyes dilated). It was neat to see the inside of my eyeballs. And, good news! My retinas are healthy and normal despite my family history of high blood pressure, glaucoma, and macular degeneration (this last of which I am at risk for seeing as I have a family history, am female, and have blue eyes). Yay healthy eyes. My prescription has changed, and my corneas are shaped funny, but my retinas are all good.
I was, however, a little disappointed that the optometrist didn't ask me to read the big E with my left eye (I can't). Oh well.
I'm going to go back sometime this week and pick out new frames. Then I will get that pupil measurement I need to order frames from the online place (Zenni optical) and get awesome sunglasses (although still undecided about which to order).
Tonight I used my healthy retinas to help me view Roman Holiday which I had never seen before (nor any other Audrey Hepburn movie that I can recall), and I liked it a great deal. Audrey Hepburn is adorable, if ridiculously small waisted.

Date: 2008-03-26 05:23 am (UTC)When I went for my first eye exam the machine they used didn't work properly so they tried it about 15 times for each eye before the puff worked. It was horrible. Buzz, nothing, buzz, nothing, buzz, nothing ... buzz, airpuff. I was halfway out of that chair when it finally worked. The second eye was torture.
