So apparently Charter is going to upgrade our internet service (which sucks great big donkey hotays) and give us free basic cable for a year! This is exciting. Especially because I really really really wanted tv (we currently have no reception) for both the debates and because I love to veg in front of the tv and knit, which is more difficult when one is balancing a laptop on one's lap (I watch tv on the internet now). Plus I can get my PBS fix. I know, I know, I am lame and very American, but that is how it is.

Very little progress on the hula hooping front. Funny how I don't recall having any trouble with it when I was little.

My mouth guard is probably doing wonderful things for my teeth, but it keeps getting incorporated into my dreams. For example, I was dreaming that I couldn't chew something. After a while my mind butted into the dream to remind it of the mouth guard and tell it to knock it off with the chewing.

I made this guy. That is his scarf still in progress next to him.

did you get an adult sized hula hoop? that makes a big difference, because if the circumference is too small or the hoop weight is too light, it will make it waaaaay more difficult than it needs to be.

Hmm... I don't know! Probably not, since I think there were wider diameter hoops available.

hrmmmmmm. where'd you get the hoop? or, better yet, whereabouts does it reach (bellybutton, chest?) when you stand one end on the ground?

It came from Target. And it reaches about to the waist, I would guess.

Hula hoops seem to be difficult to find - there's a shiny kind (with bright pseudo-holographic colors) and a kind that lights up in stores that I've seen.

ah, yes, then a lightweight kid one. i;m actually surprised it reaches as high as your waist! but the adult-sized ones that i make reach chest height or taller sometimes, and the added circumferenece & heft make it far easier to use them, actually.

if you wish to make your own, it's not hard & pretty fun (instructions here: http://www.jasonunbound.com/hoops.html), or you can sometimes find them at hippie-type music festivals or some such.

I had no idea! Thank you for the information. Because I do think hooping could be fun, but right now it just falls down in loops. :P

if i were closer, i would happily give you some tips in person, but to be honest the size/weight of the hoop (child vs. adult) makes a big difference. it's a lot of fun and good exercise (unless you perfect the lazy hooping trick of drinking beer while hula hooping).

I doubt I'll make one myself, but I may keep my eyes peeled at stores with exercise equipment and stay away from the toy aisle ones.

Just trying with the toy one is a lot of fun, so if I could actually get it going, I bet I would enjoy it more.

I was unclear; my love of television is lame and American (I will watch just about any reality show). PBS, of course, rocks the nation's socks.
