We went to IKEA-land (aka southcenter/Tukwila area) yesterday. We went first to IKEA where we got a strainer, a bookshelf, and lunch. Had never eaten at IKEA before, but it was good food for the price. Should I be surprised? I don't think so.

Then we went shopping for suits. Ended up at the Men's Warehouse where we had an opposite experience from last week's crappy one. And we got Daniel a very nice suit. It has a vest. And it cost perhaps 3 times as much as my dress, but I barely blinked an eye at it. Go figure.

Then... oh lordy. I'm still trying to find some kind of really cute, colorful, joyful sundress for the dinner after the wedding. Very difficult. I tried on an adorable white sundress with red flowers on it which even came in plus sizes, but the fit was abysmal. I was very sad. Well, I was slightly disappointed, anyway.

And the lane bryant in Tukwila had a whole second lingerie section, plus the whole store was 40% off, so I said fuck it and bought a strapless bra. Possibly the most confusing bra I've ever encountered. Plus it doesn't really support the boobies, just encases them in a boob form. I'll wait to try it on with the dress before I do anything drastic, like return it. I also got a bra with stars on it; I haven't had a fun bra in so long. I got this one a band size and a cup size up from what I'd been wearing. I got the strapless in the same cup size I'd been wearing. I'm no longer certain where I stand in term of bra sizing.

When we got home, I finally ordered The Dress. Now just have to wait for it to arrive.

And sometime this week I need to go to the yarn store and see if they have a laceweight that matches my sash. Wedding shawl anyone? But what pattern, what pattern indeed. Hmmm.....

I've got the giant Peacock Feathers shawl lined up as a possible wedding shawl. But it may well totally overwhelm a tea-length dress. What about the Swallowtail shawl, maybe in a heavier weight so it's a bit bigger?

Hooray shopping, that's very exciting. I hate my strapless bra, they really, as you say, don't do a heck of a lot.

I am actually leaning toward a stole shape, because of the size of the dress. But I'm looking for patterns which aren't too fussy - don't have too many stitch patterns. Print o' the Wave? An Anne Hanson pattern? Maybe muir? I also like the Curved Shawl with edging from VLT. Decisions, decisions.

Yeah, I don't want to be all CLEAVAGE! for the wedding/reception, but I would like to fill out the top of the dress nicely. Hopefully the extra size of the boob-forms will aid in that.

I really like Muir and am considering making it. I also made the center panel for Print O' the Wave and ripped it out after reading the (IMO) superior construction techniques in Victorian Lace Today - but by no means would I have grafted Print O' the Wave in the middle, I just made one section. The Melon Pattern wrap from VLT is very nice and super-easy to do, too.

A friend of mine, a dancer, used to secure all her strapless stuff with double-sided carpet tape. She claimed it never hurt taking it off, but I never tried it.

the last time i tried to buy a bra with stars on it i was arrested...

On a serious note, the Men's Wearhouse is awesome and the only place I will buy suits from. It's worth a 40 minute drive to get people who know what they're doing to get you into a good suit.
