Here's the deal: LJ gets the brunt of my emotional baggage. I freak out at it. And whatever I'm freaking out about usually passes. I was surprised to have people concerned for me after my last, admittedly dramatic, post. Which is nice. I like that folks care. But I want y'all to understand, I do most of my freaking out at LJ.

And yes, the number of freakouts is going to get higher as we approach the end of the school year, but this is the way it goes. Then there will be moving freak outs. And then there will be (fingers crossed) starting a new job freak outs. And then there will be as yet unknown freak outs. And so on and so forth.

Like right now? I'm developing a sinus infection... or something. My sinuses are filling up. This is the first time I've managed to recognize this and I don't know if there's anything I can do to stem the death snot (ie the one day in which my sinuses decide to drain). Oh what a lovely picture to start your morning.

Also, there's a light dusting of snow on the ground here. I hope it does not scare my bus.

Speaking as a sinus "expert" as of late...

You need to do this: http://www.nationaljewish.org/disease-info/treatments/alt-ther/nasal-wash.aspx More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasal_irrigation http://www.fammed.wisc.edu/research/projects/nasalirrigation.html I know it sounds gross and weird, but it seriously can help ward off a full-blown sinus infection. I used to get 2 or 3 annually... but since I started doing this nasal wash thing (I do it daily during allergy season and 2-3 times daily anytime I feel a cold or sinus thingy coming on), this is the first sinus infection I've had that's required drugs... first one in like 2 years. I use a little bulb-syringe that I got in the baby aisle. I mix up the solution (I do about 1/2 tsp canning salt to 12 oz water, I skip the baking soda), suck some up in the syringe, stick the thing up my nostril, and squeeze... I do it bent over the sink or in the shower. It can be a little messy. The water comes out the other nostril. Then you switch and do it on the other side. I typically do about 8oz every time I do it... just repeating till my cup of solution is nearly empty. You can also be fancy and get a Neti Pot to do this... I like my syringe, though... and it cost like $2 as opposed to $15... and you can get the whole mess (salt and syringe) at the grocery store. Use either canning salt or kosher salt... they don't have iodine in them and are less irritating. So go... do it now!! The dead thing in my sinuses is on its way out... I don't want it to move into yours!!

My broken record: Don't sniffle. If you pull it in instead of pushing it out, it'll build up pressure and hurt. And it has to come out some time.

Drink lots and lots of fluids. Kill the sinus monster with tea (green tea, if possible). And the flushing out the sinuses thing helps too (I use a saline nasal spray, but your friend's method would definitely be cheaper). During undergrad, I'd get a sinus infection every few months, so that the antibiotics stopped working. Luckily, I haven't had a bad one since I've been in Seattle.
