Jan. 28th, 2007 10:51 pmGahd. I hate blogger. I use it for my thesis blog and I just spent at least an hour fighting with it, trying to be able to do the equivalent (though crappy and less flexible equivalent) of an lj-cut. It involved coding changes to the style template. I followed blogger's directions. It did not work. I tried it using a different style. I tried looking in their forums for help. The only thing that worked was an outside blogger with a different set of instructions than blogger gives.
Screw you blogger. I just wanted a post that wasn't five screen lengths long. And you stole my night. I'm really frustrated by it. How can something so popular be so difficult to manage? Or maybe I'm just coding incompetent... Which is true, but when the instructions they give are made of LIES, I don't consider it my fault.
And the whole using blogger thing is solely for status and respectability. If I want to get involved with the "conversation" I can't do it from livejournal. It's not respectable.
cabell had a good discussion about this when she was liveblogging a conference recently. Masculine/feminine and all that jazz. It's just got that air of professionallity. Livejournal is covered in the tears of 15 year olds everywhere, whether or not that actually reflects the true demographics here.
The extremely long entry I was trying to curtail detailed by technology history, starting with our first ever Tandy Computer. Good stuff.
