A new year and a cultural phenomenon
Dec. 30th, 2006 11:08 pmI'm not usually the New Year's resolution type, but this year I have a few changes I want to make and keep up with. So I'm going to list them here.
1. Start documenting the money I make and the money I spend. This will be done in a daily livejournal post. I am willing to make it filtered, so if you're interesting in knowing how much I make and what I buy, say so now, or they are going to be private posts (although having reactions/comments on those posts will help with my motivation). I want to do this because I DO NOT KNOW how much money I am spending. And I would like to be able to save a little, and maybe live by some kind of budget once I have a handle on what my monthly income is.
2. Play Dance Dance Revolution a few times a week. (Translated: Get some exercise. If the exercise gets me points and rhythm and maybe toward some weird gaming goal, I'm more likely to do it.)
3. In conjunction with 1, hold off on buying yarn unless there are extenuating circumstances... or I run out (ha!) Additionally, whittle down stash. I think this may result in a stash sale very very soon. I'll let you folks know when I do that, you know, in case you're interested.
4. Keep separating the things I use from the things I just keep because. I'd like to have a minimal amount of things I'm just keeping because when next we move.
5. Get some kind of schedule going for my thesis. Create a timeline and get moving!
So, there it is. 5 ways to make my life better in the coming year.

Date: 2006-12-31 06:58 pm (UTC)Have you heard/read any Dave Ramsey? He's a personal finance guy that (despite the Christian undertones), knows his stuff (eliminate debt, avoid credit cards, save for retirement, etc). He's got a free daily podcast that I've been following for a long time. www.daveramsey.com if you're interested.
