So. The end of November came and went, and no acceptance for my conference proposal. Oh well. It was a rushed idea, a rushed abstract.

Not sure if I should go to the conference. I mean, yes, I should go, but I'm not sure I have the cash. Even if I get some travel money from the program and worked as a volunteer for the conference (10 hours labor=free registration), I'd still need to pay for lodging in San Francisco. And that can't be cheap. And I've never stayed in a hostel, so.... not so sure, not so sure.

There's the AAMs in May, but by May it's too late to get anything good out of it for my thesis, although ideal to start testing the waters of the job market.

i've never stayed in a hostel in SF but i've heard good things about them. they're so much cheaper than hotels and i've found that hostels try much harder to be nice and clean than some cheapo hotels because they care a lot more about their reputation.

my point being that if somewhere to stay is the main reason holding you back, don't let it! i totally recommend trying a hostel. : )

hostels can be fun, and you can also check out something like couchsurfing.org

Hostel=blast!

When I was first checking out Seattle I was staying at the Green Tortoise Hostel (which is closed and gutted now on 3rd St. downtown) and I know they have another branch in SF. I paid $50/night for a single room but doubles were half that. It was alot of fun and really not that different from a hotel (except no room cleaning). In addition, it was free breakfast between something like 7-10 (ingredients were free but you had to cook it yourself) and free dinners on certain days of the week (volunteers/staff would get together and whip something up). They also had coupons for tourist-y things (like EMP and Space Needle).
