Oh shit I want to go to this conference. I could be a volunteer - that waives the registration fee. But five nights lodging and airfare to San Francisco? I'm not sure I could reasonably swing that.

Something in me totally wants to submit a proposal to present a paper - say, my thesis - there.

Am I insane?

The hostels in San Fran are like $30 a night, and some of them aren't bad. I recommend the one in Fisherman's Wharf.

I was about to post the same thing as above, and I bet you could get cheap airfare from Seattle to San Fran or take the train.

It would be kind of silly to both write your thesis and not go to that conference.

You could maybe get a grant or school funding? I know at Madison, if you had a few people who also wanted to go, funding would have been quite easy to come by.

Contrariwise, we should take a vacation down there some time anyway. Excuse!
