Car people?

Anyone round these parts know cars?

Because this.... thing... fell off our car yesterday. It's plastic, about a foot long, and kind of triangular, with one side open. There are two floppy insets that look like some kind of filter, maybe. It came from the rear left side of a Nissan Sentra. So far as I can tell, it was just set into a ledge on the inside of the body.

What is this thing? And is it bad that it's in the trunk and not attatched to the rest of the car?

Does it look like a honeycomb? Because the rear bumper is full of those to help protect the car in an accident, but I can't see how one would just fall out unless you had been in an accident.
