Daniel lovingly bought me a Zippo lighter last year for my birthday (only one shopping month left till the next one!), and he got me lighter fluid for Christmas (we spent most of the time between my birthday and Christmas last year distressingly broke).

I've filled the lighter with fluid four or five times and used it to light stuff maybe 8 times (something nice about using a Zippo to light a scented candle. I filled it and used it about two weeks ago. I went to use it last night - no flame!

Anyone know about Zippos? Is this normal? Does it require constant use and filling? Cause it is darned annoying to have to get out the lighter fluid everytime I wanna light a candle. I mean - it's filled with some kind of cotton padding which you soak, then close up, so the padding is surrounded by two layers of metal. Evaporation should not be a factor here. I like my Zippo, I really do, but this is annoying.

It's normal, the fluid disappearing. I'm not sure why... I thought it was evaporation... through the wick maybe, definitely the top anyhow. If you turn the lighter upside down or on it's side the fluid will come out. Who knows... I love my Zippo! Though cigs are clearly not as pleasant as a scented candle, there is something about lighting them with a Zippo that makes it special.
