On Wednesday I went to the post office before heading off to school. Because it is impossible to predict how long it will take at the Post Office, I was really early for my bus. So I'm standing at the stop, knitting, with my music really quite loud through my headphones. And it's a nice day out so I'm rather enjoying myself.

This lady comes up to me. She's older, but doesn't look elderly or anything. I see her look at my knitting. Then I see that she's saying something. So I pull off my headphones and say, sorry? She tells me how impressed she is with knitting, and about how she used to crochet and just recently found the duck afgan she had been working on sometime long ago. She asks me if I made up the pattern (no). And she basically proceeds to tell me her life story. In the course of 10 to 15 minutes. These are some of the things that I now know about this woman, though I do not know her name.

-She spoke Spanish until age 8.
-When she went into the army her english wasn't great, but the other women in her unit taught her pronunciation and stuff.
-She's Jewish and moved to this neighborhood to be closer to temple.
-She spoke french with her father and they would talk about how silly her mother was.
-She knows hebrew and is working on reading modern Hebrew.
-She is very interested in Mesopotamia and that region of the ancient world and informs me that there is evidence of "them from up there" there.
-Her son makes fun of her spelling errors in emails.
-She had to return a cell phone.
-Before going to an appointment at the VA hospital.
-Her father is now dead.
-At one point she lived in Las Vegas and the bus system there is not as good as it is here.

For ten minutes - this is a lot of information. And there's probably more which I can't remember. And the thing is, I barely said anything. I said stuff about my knitting, and told her that I go to school here when she asked. It was interesting.

As the bus came she said "Good luck in your studies. Lord bless you." I say "Thank you." It occurs to me later that this is probably not the appropriate response. Whatever. Still interesting.

Well, it is the appropriate response for the first half, but maybe not the second. :) I love when stuff like this happens to me. And have you finished downloading all those albums. I don't like keeping things like that up on my site, ya know? :)

It was just so completely random.

Oh yes. Thanks for the albums. We've snagged 'em. :D
