There are some things I can't stomach. Over in [livejournal.com profile] punk_knitters there is a recent post about knitting while being suspended from hooks - apparently something that is done in body modification circles. The pictures of her knitting and hanging were a little disturbing, but also sort of amazing.

So I decided to go over to her personal journal and see what was up... she had some images of a different sort of hanging - from the knee and chest. I checked it out but I started having this very visceral reactions to the images. They're not gory (though just a little bloody), it's just something that I - apparently - can't hack. I get the same reaction to very explicit parts in movies - particularly parts involving mutilation of the hands or the eyes.

This is not to say that people should not do suspensions (what the hanging on hooks is called), but it's something that I don't understand and that I don't react well to. I'm intrigued by how it works and why people would do it, but to see it... well... I'm a wuss.

Yeah. I'm posting to say that I was startled by the intensity of reaction I had to the four point knee-chest suspension images in the woman's journal. Wow.

My initial reaction to suspensions was probably similar to yours. They kinda freaked me out. However, I got to see [livejournal.com profile] exthesuccubus suspended at an invent at Inferno and it was a lot different from what I expected. Kind of cool actually. Not something I would do, mind you, but interesting.

Well, it's really the four point knee chest one that got to me. There was a set where she was hanging from two in her back and that was okay. Maybe it's partly that the one with the back was black and white and that the four point one was in color.

It is interesting, I agree, but it evokes something really visceral in me. And not in a good way.

Yeah, I don't really get it at the moment, but whatever. Maybe someday I will, maybe someday I won't.

Aside from the fact that needles and hooks are both pointy, though, I don't really make a connection between the two activities.

I think she just thought she'd try it. :)

apparently, she was! ba-dum-bump (or however that sound is made). ;)

anyway, the idea of suspension and all the pics I've seen creep me out. I know people who love it, but I can't stand needles, much less hooks. ...yet I went and looked at the knitting while hanging pics anyway.

That's really icky! Plus she reminds me of Kinski in Nosferatu. Not my cup'o'tea!

So we'll look for the girl with the pinkish, blue-ish, purple-ish greenish hair at the Crocodile? :) No need to dye for us unless you want to! :)

Tickets are now in hand! Woo hoo!

If I get the urge I may redye. I've been thinking I should do it before school starts, though that's in late September.

I go by Lynn, if you haven't picked that up yet.

That is something that for my own mental health and sanity I cannot think about in any great detail. I do not grok--any more than they grok how quietly satisfying being an even-keeled straight-laced introvert can be.

To each our own, and how wonderful the world is.
