stomach and suspensions
Aug. 23rd, 2005 02:56 pmThere are some things I can't stomach. Over in
punk_knitters there is a recent post about knitting while being suspended from hooks - apparently something that is done in body modification circles. The pictures of her knitting and hanging were a little disturbing, but also sort of amazing.
So I decided to go over to her personal journal and see what was up... she had some images of a different sort of hanging - from the knee and chest. I checked it out but I started having this very visceral reactions to the images. They're not gory (though just a little bloody), it's just something that I - apparently - can't hack. I get the same reaction to very explicit parts in movies - particularly parts involving mutilation of the hands or the eyes.
This is not to say that people should not do suspensions (what the hanging on hooks is called), but it's something that I don't understand and that I don't react well to. I'm intrigued by how it works and why people would do it, but to see it... well... I'm a wuss.
Yeah. I'm posting to say that I was startled by the intensity of reaction I had to the four point knee-chest suspension images in the woman's journal. Wow.

Date: 2005-08-24 02:56 am (UTC)It is interesting, I agree, but it evokes something really visceral in me. And not in a good way.

Date: 2005-08-23 10:45 pm (UTC)Aside from the fact that needles and hooks are both pointy, though, I don't really make a connection between the two activities.

anyway, the idea of suspension and all the pics I've seen creep me out. I know people who love it, but I can't stand needles, much less hooks. ...yet I went and looked at the knitting while hanging pics anyway.

I go by Lynn, if you haven't picked that up yet.
