We got back to the apartment yesterday to discover that the bathtub had been stripped of its skankiness. It still looks ugly, but not in that slowly rotting way.

They also painted the kitchen, something which I had suggested in my maintenance request but nothing that they had ever told us they were going to do. And they broke my vase while they were doing it. It looks a lot like the vase in this auction, only greener. I'm just glad they didn't break the Frankoma bowl - that's my mom's and she got it from her father. I really like Frankoma pottery for some reason. But they broke it and left a note. Arg. The kitchen does look less like someone ripped the cabinets off the wall, but it fails to solve the problem of us not having many cabinets.

Spring Break:

On Thursday I visited a teacher that I had had from third grade to eighth grade. She taught the gifted and talented program. I hadn't seen her since sometime in high school - like probably sophomore year in high school. So we talked for a couple of hours. It was really good to see her again. Having her to talk to in middle school was a godsend. She was so important to me at that time and I remember being sad to leave her when I moved to high school. Since then she's had to deal with all sorts of politics - they cut the gifted and talented program, moved her to special ed (talk about ends of the spectrum), and now she's the district's permanent substitute. I expect I'll keep up with her a little better now.

Friday we drove down to Milwaukee to see The Animation Show. Very much the coolness. Not quite as nifty as last year - didn't have the structure - but lots of good cartoons. And Bill Plympton has redeemed himself in my eyes. "Parking Lot" (in last year's Show) didn't do anything for me, but "Gaurd Dog" (this year's Show) is brilliant. And "The Meaning of Life" is pretty cool too. Daniel and I decided we were certified nerds because, as we sat waiting for the movie that we had driven an hour to see, we started discussing the forthcoming Star Wars movie in some detail. Oh yes. We did. All in good fun.

The theatre itself was interesting. An old theatre with a single screen. Usually shows movies from the 50's and 60's. The other item on the marquee was a 3 Stooges film. It seemed like a number of people in attendence (at the 3:30 matinee) were regulars. The sort of people who might come to any new movie playing provided it was a matinee. Older folks who remembered going there as children. Oddly enough, the pre-show music in the theater was some sort of trance like music. The music in the lobby (at least when I went to get popcorn) was Monty Python's "Drunken Philosopher's Song." Figure that out.

Other than that, spring break was relatively uneventful. Bought shit. Knitted a sweater. nothing exciting. Yeah.
