Nov. 17th, 2008 08:20 pmWork today went really quickly. Faster than usual, it seemed.
Walking home, I noticed that a nearby church was hosting a blood drive. So I stopped in to try to donate. I say "try to" because I haven't successfully donated blood since summer 2006. And I've had trouble before that. Iron content. Often just a little too anemic to donate blood. Not enough that they're worried, just too low to donate. But not today. Today my iron was good. I had been concerned because I was a little dehydrated going in and hadn't been prepping for a blood donation by eating meat. But all is well. And I gave blood. Hooray. I also signed up to give at their next drive, to be held on a federal holiday, which works nicely with my schedule. Although I can take time from work to give blood and get paid for it!
I'm pretty excited about the blood donor thing. I always feel a bit let down when my iron is too low and I have to leave when all the senior citizens are doing just fine and donating. I hope this is a harbinger of many happy donations to come. They are using some fancy new technology to measure iron - some machine, not the drop of blood in blue liquid test. Daniel, however, cannot donate blood. Cause he's special.
I love amazon.com. In the past few months I've contacted customer service twice - once for some dents and dings in our cd shelf, and just last week because one disc in a dvd series had some kind of horrible factory defect. They resolved the dvd series quickly and gave us a pre-paid slip to return it. And we got the replacement today. They gave us a 20% refund on the cd shelf. So I am a happy camper.
That dvd series? Doctor Who Series 3. We are proud owners of Series 1, 2, and 3. Will have to get Series 4 at some point. Love that Doctor.
