It was getting to be late this evening and I still needed to make my tuna fish salad for lunches this week. So I grab three cans of tuna (the local grocery is having a sale - $.79 a can. We have at least a dozen cans) and start draining them.
Last time I made tuna salad for a whole week, I only used two cans, but the sandwiches were a little thin. So I figured three cans and the sandwiches will be a little thick. Normally I count about half a can per sandwich, but it's tuna - a little extra won't hurt.
I get the cans drained, cat is happily lapping up the tuna water. Open and empty can #1, OK. Open can #2 - Can opener explodes halfway around. How does a can opener (your basic long handled, cheap
butterfly can opener) explode? I don't know! It appears the metal just broke, and three distinct pieces of can opener were scattered across the counter top. Pull out a back up can opener (short handles, Daniel hates it, but I kept it cause it works just fine) and open the can. Dump the can in the bowl, scrap out the bits left in there with a fork, cut my knuckle on the lid.
It bleeds. I hurry off to get neosporin and a band aid, recruiting Daniel to defend my tuna against Business Cat.
I bandage it.That taken care off, can #3 opens without trouble, I don't injure myself further.
But I do realize that I've just prepared 5 days worth of tuna salad for a 3 day week.
Geez. Not my night for tunafish.
